Helping Students Learn to Speak English at Our Language School in London
Learning to speak English
at Our Language School
Trying to Learn to speak English is not as difficult as it has been made out to be…
The Holy Grail of learning the English language fluently—speaking English like an Englishman—is actually quite attainable, if one puts his mind to it. All it takes is a bit of determination, a couple of lucky breaks, and a whole lot of elbow grease.
I was raised on English by native speaking, yet world travelling parents—missionary volunteers with The Family International. As such, I had the privilege of growing up in many different parts of the planet, spreading a message of love and hope to the four corners of the world. Communication with the people we came to minister to was of paramount importance in our lives and, consequently, I have ended up learning four additional languages, besides English. These range from Chinese to Hindi, Spanish to Thai, each as beautiful and exotic as the one before it. I have also taught English in many different countries around the world. But in spite of the diversities of all these challenges, I have found that there are a few basic principles and tips that hold the same, no matter what language you want to learn.
In today’s world you would think that everyone would be able to understand the British language without any problem. The reason for this is that in the UK there are so many different cultures and people from all different backgrounds speaking a wide range of languages. But there are still people that find it hard to learn a new language and for this reason here at Oxford House College we have provided many different courses at all different levels to help students across the world learn this wonderful language that is widely spoke throughout the world. Learning to speak English in Oxford will also help students improve their career prospects.
The English language has been adopted across the world so if you are looking to travel to any country in the world then the students will need to understand the English language clearly and confidently to be able to communicate in your chosen destination. Below are some of the tips that you may need to help you get by on your English course.
The first tip is that all students must have dedication. It is the most important thing you will need when learning a new language. There are a number of steps that you will need to take in order to be successful at the end of your course. As well as learning the four main parts of the English language which is of course reading, writing, speaking and listening you will also need to understand the grammar and punctuation that is used. Many of the English courses that we have available will include all of theses so that you are able to study them. Students will also need to dedicate a lot of time when learning the language to ensure that they don’t miss out on any vital information.
Another tip is the resources that you use. Throughout our courses at Oxford House College you will usually study from a course book and your tutors may sometimes use resources such as audio CD’s, DVD’s, newspapers and radios. But whilst you are at home studying it may also be a good idea to watch the television, read the newspaper or a magazine, listen to the radio and make conversation with people that speak the English language as a first language. This will help to build your confidence as well as to help you practice and understand the language easier. You will also understand the British culture a lot better.
