Learn the English Language
Don’t worry if you forget things or mess up sometimes. You aren’t supposed to remember every single thing you
ingest in your quest to learn the English language. Allow yourself some room to make mistakes, and laugh them off without getting frustrated. Don’t get discouraged.
Remember, your memory is like a muscle and the more you use it, the more you will be able to “lift” with it. The more you put into it, the more it will be able to hold! So stretch that memory. Expect more of it. Whip it into shape and you may find that it just might surprise you.
A quick word on what I consider one of the most important principles: immersion in the culture. Me, I already know how to speak English fluently; I was raised on the English language and fed on it from birth like a greedy word worm. A couple of years ago, I moved to Mexico and threw my heart into learning Spanish. Learning Spanish is a lot like learning English—or Turkish, or any other language for that matter. The same basic principles apply to learning Spanish, as to learning English—determination, hard work, and being in the right place at the right time.
